“For to us a child
is born,
to us a Son is
given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall
be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father,
Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and of
peace
there will be no
end,
on the throne of
David and over His kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and
with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.”
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.”
~Isaiah
9:6-7
There
are more than 400 prophecies in the Bible that foretell of Christ’s birth,
telling us who He is and what He will do. God didn’t keep it a secret; He
wanted all of Israel to know that He was sending a Savior, and after Christ was
born, His life was recorded for all of us to know who He is and what His plans
for us are. God kept nothing from us, nothing hidden, so that each of us would
fully understand the scope of His love for us. And as we get closer to the day
we celebrate Christ’s birth, it fills my heart even more to know what Christ
gave up to live among us here on planet earth so that we can live for Him.
It
can be difficult for a hurting world to understand that scope of love. After
all, how do we recognize love when we’ve never seen it in such magnitude? But
as Christians, that is our task every day—to show the love of Christ to others
in real and practical ways. Love is the ultimate verb—and covers a multitude of
sins (1 Peter 4:8). So, as we draw nearer the day of celebrating the ultimate
act of love, when pure love came down from Heaven, remember the sins Christ’s
love covered for you and pass that same love on to another.
“So that Christ may dwell in your hearts
through faith—that you, being rooted and
grounded in love, may
have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and
length and height and depth, and to know the
love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with
all the fullness of God (Ephesians 3:17-19).”
